Tetra Pak launches its annual sustainability report in Egypt

After its successful participation in COP27 and leading the declaration of the first Egyptian Pact for Used Beverage Cartons waste
Tetra Pak, world’s leading food processing and packaging solutions’ company, announced the launch of its 2022 annual sustainability report in Egypt during the coming period. This comes after Tetra Pak’s participation in COP27, the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, in Sharm El Sheikh which was quite was eventful. It witnessed the declaration of the first Egyptian Pact for Used Beverage Cartons waste with Beyti, Juhayna and Uniboard.
This newly formed pact is the first of its kind in the industry and was very much appreciated by the industry, media and all the attendees. Amongst them was Dr. Layla Iskandar the former Environment Minster, Eng. Ahmed Kamal Abdel Moneim. Executive Director of Environmental Compliance Office and Sustainable Development at the Federation of Egyptian Industries, and Dr. Ali Abu Sena, CEO of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency.
At the blue zone more activities were taking place as part of Sweden’s COP27 delegation. Tetra Pak attempted to leverage its global footprint and industry expertise to accelerate actions and enable a shift towards resilient and sustainable food systems and healthier diets.
Our representatives at the event include Charles Brand, Executive Vice President Processing Solutions & Equipment, Eija Hietavuo, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, and Gilles Tisserand, Vice President Climate & Biodiversity.
They actively contributed to different topics and thematic days during COP27, such as the Decarbonisation Day (on November 11th), the Adaptation and Agriculture Day (on November 12th), and the Biodiversity Day (on November 16th). The company will also be present with a booth in the Green Zone, as part of Egypt’s business pavilion, booth number Y9.
Wael Khoury, Managing Director, Tetra Pak Egypt Area said, “We achieved several milestones in our sustainability journey in Egypt. Responsible industry leadership and a sustainable approach to business represent the core of our company. We commit to making food safe and available, everywhere. We promise to protect what’s good: protecting food, people, and the planet.
Khoury noted, “recycling goal is an integral part of our strategy to drive environmental excellence that is why we signed an agreement with Uniboard, the leading Paperboard producer in Egypt, to co-operate with the objective to recycle used beverage cartons (UBC) in Egypt, with a total joint project value of over €2.5 million. We also initiated and lead the Pact for Used Beverage Cartons waste with our partners Beyti, Juhayna and Uniboard – we announced that during the COP 27.
“This is just the start, and we will continue to cooperate with all key stakeholders, public institutions, waste management and collection companies, NGO’s, retailers and our customers to make recycling work.” Noted added.
COP27 also witnessed the launch of the “Good Water” package which grabbed the attention of numerous attendees of the conference in the Blue zone and Green zones. It is water in Tetra Prisma Aseptic 500ml.
