Ministry of Health signs a Memorandum of Understanding with Merck Limited Egypt to support the President’s initiative of early

Merck Company: Patient health is the company’s top priority.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and Merck Ltd. – Egypt. The protocol was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Population by Dr. Mohamed Hassani, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Public Health Initiatives, and on behalf of Merck Ltd. – Egypt by Dr. Haitham Habashi, CEO and Managing Director of Merck Ltd. – Egypt.
This took place on the sidelines of Health, Population, and Development Global Congress 2023, held in the New Administrative Capital.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, clarified that the protocol signed between the Ministry of Health and Merck aims to support the presidential initiative for early detection of cancer, specifically colon cancer.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar shared the details of the protocol, which includes providing support in organizing training programs for the medical teams participating in the Presidential Initiative for early detection of cancer as part of continuous medical education.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar added that medical education covers oncologists, surgical oncologists, gastroenterologists, endoscopists, clinical pathologists, pharmacists, and nurses. Also, the collaboration includes raising awareness among citizens about the importance of early detection and diagnosis of tumors.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population continued, stating that cooperation also includes providing the required genetic analysis for colon and rectal tumors, within the laboratories of the Ministry of Health, which is a fundamental step to determine an accurate and proper treatment plan.

On his part, Dr. Haitham Habashi, CEO and Managing Director of Merck,expressed his pleasure with the collaboration between the company and the Ministry of Health and Population in providing support for the presidential initiative for early detection of cancer. He emphasized the importance of early disease detection in reducing the health burden on citizens.

Dr. Haitham Habashi affirmed the company’s ongoing commitment to cooperate with the Ministry of Health and provide training support for medical staff and continuous education, reflecting the quality of medical service provided to the patient through diagnosis and treatment, as the health of the Egyptian patient is the company’s top priority.
