In a strategic move aimed at enhancing its presence in Arab markets, M. O. Group, a leading manufacturer of confectionery products, participated in Egypt’s largest trade mission to Iraq, organized by the Export Council for Food Industries. Additionally, the company took part in the Iraq Food and Beverage Expo, held from October 1 to 3, 2024.

The trade mission saw the participation of 35 companies from the food industry sector, all eager to explore new markets and increase their exports, particularly to Iraq, which is considered one of the most promising markets in the region.

Hamada Al-Obrq, CEO of M. O. Group, stated that the company aims to increase its confectionery exports to Iraq to represent 10% of its total exports in the coming year.

“We see the Iraqi market as a promising opportunity for the growth of our exports, especially in the confectionery sector, which has seen high demand among Iraqi consumers,” Al-Obrq said.

He added, “Our participation in this trade mission is aimed at building new business partnerships with Iraqi distributors and traders, as well as expanding our network in a market that is witnessing growing demand for high-quality Egyptian food products.”

Al-Obrq highlighted that the bilateral meetings held by the group during the mission with major Iraqi importers will significantly accelerate the company’s plans to export a variety of products, including candies, bonbons, chocolates, and lollipops, to the Iraqi market.

The bilateral meetings between Egyptian and Iraqi companies were held on September 29 and 30, while the Baghdad International Fair continues from October 1 to 3.

The Egyptian Trade Mission to Iraq

Al-Obrq pointed out that the Egyptian trade mission to Iraq represents a crucial step in the Export Council for Food Industries’ strategy to support Egyptian companies in entering new markets and expanding their presence in the Middle East. The mission is part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral trade and enhance Egypt’s exports of food products, particularly to neighboring countries with growing demand.

Egypt’s Food Exports to Iraq: Key Figures and Sectors

In 2023, Egypt’s food exports to Iraq amounted to $175 million, up from $133 million in 2022, representing a 30% increase year-over-year.

Iraq is currently Egypt’s 9th largest food export destination. Among the most significant products exported to Iraq are: flavoring agents, concentrates for carbonated drinks, tobacco and tobacco alternatives, cereal-based food preparations, biscuits, and fats and oils.

Other key exports include pickled and processed olives, dairy products, frozen vegetables, chocolates, sugar and glucose, tomato paste, and pasta.

Expanding Market Access for Egyptian Food Products

The increasing demand for high-quality food products in Iraq offers significant growth opportunities for Egyptian food exporters. The participation of Egyptian companies in trade missions and expos like this one plays a vital role in identifying new business prospects, establishing trade links, and promoting Egypt’s food sector as a trusted supplier in the Middle East.

As M. O. Group continues to focus on expanding its market share in Iraq, its participation in such trade missions underscores the company’s commitment to growing its export capabilities and fostering long-term business relationships in the region.

Al-Obrq concluded, “We are optimistic about the future of our exports to Iraq, and we are committed to enhancing our presence in this vital market. We believe this trade mission will open up numerous new business opportunities, contributing significantly to our growth and expansion plans in the coming years.
