MNHD Participates in the 38th Annual African Union for Housing Finance Conference – AUHF

Madinet Nasr for Housing and Development (Egyptian Stock Exchange Code MNHD.CA) – one of Egypt’s leading urban community developers–has participated in the 38th Annual African Union for Housing Finance Conference (AUHF) held in Cairo from 28 to 30 November.Under the title “A Green Urban Future for Affordable Housing,” the conference is hosted and organized by the Social Housing and Mortgage Finance Support Fund in partnership with the African Union for Housing Finance.

The conference was attended by several African official figures, members of the Board of Directors of the African Union for Housing Finance, representatives of the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the United Nations Human Settlements Program UN-Habitat, Habitat for Humanity International organization, CAHF organization, and a large number ofEgyptian and real estate developers and financing companies.

As part of MNHD’s remarkable presence at the conference, Eng. Abdallah Sallam, President and CEO of MNHD, participated at the “Creating Spaces for Happiness: Building Green into Egypt’s Residential Landscape” session besides Mr. Ahmed El-Dorghamy, Basic Services & Climate Change Program Officer at the UN-HABITAT and moderated by Ms. Chinwe Sagna – Managing Partner of Catalyst Realty Solutions. During the session, Sallam shared his views on the potential expansion of affordable green buildings and how real estate developers can help achieve the concept of happiness within projects while ensuring sustainability and savings in the long term. He also addressed the necessary steps to reduce carbon emissions resulting from the construction and real estate sectors and stressed the importance of joining forces between the public and private sectors to achieve this goal. Finally, he shed light on green financing and the potential opportunities for MNHD to tap into this field which is still being studied by the company.

As a conscious developer, sustainability is a priority for MNHD. The company is keen on taking into account sustainability standards when developing the general plansof its projects and updating existing ones to integrate key sustainability standards such as energy sources and relying more on solar energy andusing environmentally friendly materials that can be reused through their projects. MNHD also focuses on using materials with a longer life span in new projects and choosing colors that can enhance sustainability standards, facades, and landscapes. MNHD is currently studying introducing new materials that reduce the negative use of building materials and their impact on the environment, are easy to maintain, do not cause emissions, and can be recycled.

Founded in 1959 and listed on the Egyptian Exchange in 1996, MNHD has capitalized on a long and successful track record of delivering world-class housing and infrastructure projects to broaden its exposure to various target segments of the Egyptian real estate market. Today, the company holds a land bank of nearly nine million square meters (sqm) anchored in the East Cairo area and with a growing presence in other regions of Egypt.
